Votes To Disband, Dissolve

OGDENSBURG - On September 30, 2016, the Board of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of St. Lawrence Valley, Inc. voted to disband and dissolve its 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We will disband as a group on December 31, 2016,

But the actual dissolution process with the NYS Attorney General's Office may take longer. Our last monthly meeting was held on October 7h, and then we held free pizza luncheons at Seaway House in November and at Step-by-Step in December.

We want to thank everyone who has participated in our organization for their support and encouragement. AMI-SLV has helped hundreds of individuals over the past 25 years. I am sure that each member will continue to help others, as "caring and sharing" was an essential part of our NAMI fellowship.

AMI-SLV was founded in the late 1980's as a support group for parents with adult children hospitalized in the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Hospital. It incorporated in 1992 as a 501(c)3. We engaged in a variety of projects over the years--all with the goal of educating the public about mental illness, assisting individuals with mental illness, and supporting their friends and family members.

Sadly, our membership numbers have declined steadily and we can no longer function at the level required by our "parent" organizations, NAMI-New York State and the national organization, NAMI or National Alliance on Mental Illness. Thus, our decision to dissolve became inevitable.

We wish the best of health and good cheer to everyone for the Holiday Season and throughout the New Year.
